Information for Members

Get involved!

NEPACS is a membership organisation - open to all. By pledging a minimum of £5 per year, NEPACS members can keep in touch with meetings and events, and will recieve a copy of our annual report.

Our aims are:

  • To support and assist families and friends of prisoners in their visits to the prison
  • To ensure that children visiting relatives in prison will feel welcome and find the experience as pleasant as possible
  • To relieve hardship due to the poverty of some offenders and their families
  • To support the education and training of offenders, and other processes which may assist their rehabilitation
  • To collect and publish information relating to criminal justice matters and to the prevention of crime

As well as fundraising events and our AGM, NEPACS hosts an Annual Lecture in Durham each year, in keeping with our aim to raise public awareness on criminal justice issues. Previous speakers have included Anne Owers, Chief Inspector of prisons; Vera Baird QC MP, Solicitor General; Paul Cavadino, Chief Executive, NACRO and Baroness Jean Corston, who has focused her efforts in recent years on improving the treatment of female offenders.
