Hidden Sentence training is for any employees or volunteers whose work brings them into contact with families of prisoners, including health professionals, probation/CRC staff, school staff, child care providers, social workers, youth workers, play workers, local authority staff or community/voluntary workers.

This one-day training course (designed by Action for Prisoners and Offenders Families) will give you a clear overview of the offender's journey, its impact on the family from arrest to release, and a range of strategies and resources to help you support them in your work.

Learning outcomes

  • Understand the impact of imprisonment on prisoners' families

  • Improve understanding of the current criminal justice system and the offenders’ journey

  • Understand the support needs of prisoners' families

  • Understand the needs and wishes of prisoners' families

  • Understand how to improve the coordination of services to provide more effective support for those affected by the imprisonment of a family member

  • Understand how to improve own practice in supporting prisoners' families.

Current training dates in the north east

We are will shortly be offering places on one day Hidden Sentence training courses (9.30am to 4.30pm) as follows:

Book and pay for your place by end of TBC for a reduced cost of £35+vat (after that date cost will be £50+vat). 

Unfortunately we are unable to offer refunds. Should you be unable to attend, please inform us at least 7 days prior to your course and we may be able to move you to an alternative date. 

Commissioned courses by Darlington Borough Council

- Thursday 8 November 2018 - Darlington 
 

This one day course is being held for professionals whose work in the community of Darlington Borough brings them into contact with families of prisoners, including health, education, local authority, probation or community/voluntary workers. The course is a full day, 9.30am to 4.30pm.

Commissioned courses by Durham County Council

- Wednesday 3 October 2018 - Durham (Fully booked)
- Monday 12 November 2018 - Durham (Fully booked)

These one day courses are being held for professionals whose work in the community of County Durham brings them into contact with families of prisoners, including health, education, local authority, probation or community/voluntary workers. Both courses are from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

Full details will be passed onto delegates (location) once booking confirmation has been processed. 
 

*Please be advised that prior booking for the commissioned courses is paramount. Delegates who arrive on the day without prior booking will not be allowed to undertake the training.
